Upshur County is an area of 350 square miles in north central West Virginia where gentle hills are separated by wide valleys. Through the valleys flow rivers and steams creating beauty and productive lands.
Upshur County is bordered on the north by Harrison County, on the northeast by Barbour County, on the east by Randolph County, on the south by Webster County, and on the west by Lewis County.
Upshur County is best reached by road by traveling the east-west Corridor H which is US 33. Corridor H can be found at Exit 99 on Interstate 79 in the middle of West Virginia. If you are traveling from the East Coast, you will eventually be able to pick up the Corridor at the West Virginia border near the eastern panhandle.

- The first school in present-day Upshur County was established in 1779 in a primitive long cabin two miles south of present-day Buckhannon. This would not be far from the High School and Middle School.
